 Perimeter Transportation Coalition
Mission
PTC is a nonprofit organization committed to improving mobility in the Central Perimeter by initiating and promoting transportation alternatives and infrastructure improvements. PTC provides a forum for collective planning and action among private sector interests and a means for ongoing coordination with the public sector. The synergistic nature of PTC means that several employers, developers, and public agencies working together can have a greater impact on traffic than the summed efforts of each individual interest working alone. PTC has a more influential voice in transportation policy by virtue of its collective efforts.
PTC’s primary goals are to serve as a collective voice for the Central Perimeter area in addressing transportation issues, facilitate employee access to and around the area through TDM strategies, increase awareness of transportation issues and TMA activities and services, and provide for the effective administration of the TMA programs.
PTC’s formal mission is to improve access to the Central Perimeter for employees, visitors, and residents by implementing and promoting transportation alternatives and improvements through a coordinated and comprehensive effort of public/private partners.
Service Area
A three- by four-mile square starting approximately 1.2 miles south, 1 mile west, 2.8 miles north, and 2 miles east of the intersection of GA400 and I-285, creating a 12 square-mile area surrounding the Perimeter Mall.
Services Offered
• Vanpools – assistance to individuals wanting to participate in a vanpool including paying for the first $1,000 of the cost of a new vanpool;
• Guaranteed ride home – free ride home in emergency situations for commuters using alternative modes of transportation;
• Perimeter Pass – discounted MARTA and CCT passes;
• Effective Cycling – nationally certified educational programs promoting safe-cycling techniques.
Highlights
In 1999 PTC instituted the Holiday Shopper Shuttle to address additional traffic congestion occurring around the holidays. Running between the weeks of Thanksgiving and Christmas, the lunchtime shuttles save employees the hassle of fighting holiday traffic, giving them a stress-free way to shop and eat lunch out of the office. The shuttles run between the larger properties and Perimeter Mall and accounted for 8,507 total shuttle trips.
